Thanks. It works well to keep everything together. Even though the newspaper starts to disintegrate before I plant out, the paper still keeps the roots of each plant separate as long as I can keep it in formation.

Would be useful to use with any spare rootrainers as they always pop open.

            • Weeded a bed that had onions and leeks in it. Cleaned out a chicken coop and applied poop liberally to same bed. (Doesn't seem to make any difference whether I compost it or not)
Set up a collapsible table next to shed for overwintering plants on. Tidied tomato plants taking off dodgy looking leaves.
My next door neighbours FIL has recently died and he was a keen leek grower. He had established his own strain of show leek which my neighbour isn't really interested in. To keep his FIL's strain going I asked if I could have his biggest leek to use as a seed leek. I dug it up, cleaned it up and set it in a large pot of new compost, giving it pride of place in the greenhouse. Hopefully it will run to seed and i can collect the seed for future growing on. With a bit of luck it will also give me some leek grass to carry on the strain vegetatively!

Yay something I can put in my recently acquired cold frame. Thanks Martin

                  • Cleared my French beans - sad to see them go, as they've been amazing.

Planted 96 (give or take) Troy onion sets and 39 Vallelado garlic cloves.

                        • Harvested my crispy dried Runner beans for next years seeds then cooked and froze those that were still green to use in chillis.
Took a couple of courgette plants and GH cucs that have finished.
                          Planted winter lettuce.

                          • Yesterday - after 5 years of total neglect, I finally tackled the last place on my plot that I've never done anything with.

An area of about 10ft by 5ft - full of brambles, couch grass, nettles, horsetail, the whole shebang.

Will probably still need a good few digs to get rid of the most stubborn of roots - but most satisfying.

Also, the soil is probably the best I have on the plot, with the rest being really heavy clay.

(It's amazing what you find underground - skeletons, asbestos, bits of old tools, etc)
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)

                            • Managed to get round to:
Attaching a waterbutt to greenhouse gutter.
Linked 5 small barrels to conservatory gutter (Lean to greenhouse........).
Fastened thin guttering to kite which run into flower buckets which have overflow hose fed into the kite which will have an irrigation system set up when I pick the pipework up tomorrow.
                              Cleared the pond of leaves.

                              • Sowed the rest of my garlic at lottie this weekend. But what with the seed garlic being so pricey, couldn't also resist a massive bulb for 60p at my local supermarket. Planted the cloves from that in the garden. We'll see. I do love an experiment!
