  • Took me about an hour to empty my work trailer, then half an hour to travel across town and out the other side to get a load of fym. Had to load a barrow and then into the trailer so took quite a while. Half an hour travel back to the plot and then an unloading session including scrubbing out trailer. Finished by reloading trailer and putting it away. All this because I got the muck for free and I really grudge paying sixty quid for a load of unrotted muck from the local farmer which he would have delivered to the plot.

    • Having bought a roll of weed control fabric, I measured up for a bed of Garlic and some onions. Made the holes using a gas torch. This I'm hoping will help me be more productive instead of weeding! Anyways planted up with:
Garlic- Lautrec Wight, Solent Wight, Casablanca, Wilko White Garlic and my own saved bulbs. 130 bulbs planted in total.
26 Senshyu Onions and 26 Golden Shallots planted also. All in all this weed control fabric bed has 182 bulbs going to grow through the holes and save me weeding!!! (I hope!!)

        • I must be on a downer with another negative feeling day under the belt. Being a miserable git I gladly accepted a slatted fence removed by one of my customers intending to erect it at my old plot. Well it never happened and it isn't needed at the new plot. After getting it in the neck from she who loves me at the weekend about the rubbish being stored at the back door ---- my lovely fence, I thought I'd better get it out of there. Well, it is long and it is heavy with some shorter bits as well. Anyway, I've spent the day taking the slats off the rails ready to move it where it won't give any offence - the new plot where I'll find a use for it some day but I still have a couple of sections to do. It's been cold and it's been wet and I wish I hadn't started. This isn't a rant, honest

          • Weeded and tidied another bed, this one has PSB, summer and winter cabbages and some scarlet kale that hasn't grown. I improvised a height extension to accommodate the PSB:

            • Weeding. Covered as much of empty ground as I could in my raised beds. Started preparing next years new carrot bed.

              • No gardening at all today. But I did finish writing up all my previous holidays on my blog, so that I can go on holiday on Sunday and take lots more pictures without getting confused

                  • Planted out some broadies that I'd germinated at home, did some general tidying, then realised a fox had been lying in the sun watching me from the back half of the plot for the past 15 minutes! He wandered off shortly after I noticed him though.

Planted some garlic out, weeded a few beds, but it gets dark far too early, and I didn't make it down there til 2.30, so I didn't get much done.

                    • Harvested a few peppers and chillis before pruning the plants a bit. Picked 8 strawberries - can't believe it in November!
Pottered in the polytunnels for a bit, then pulled some carrots, a cabbage and some turnips for sunday dinner

                        • Racked a batch of rhubarb and a batch of apple wine.

Went to the Hill and dug up the golden wonder spuds. 6 plants only gave a carrier bag of spuds, so not a great yield, but they look un-slugged.

                          Picked some kale.

                          • Planted out elephant garlic cloves, put bottle cloches over lambs lettuce and chucked another heap of seaweed on the compost heap.

                            • First day I've really been able to do gardening for a couple of weeks. Weeded at my friend's in the morning. Trimmed and fed my indoor tomato plants then mulched the flower beds in the front garden. Had a wander round the veggies at the back and cut down the last courgette plant which had gone black after the frost. Picked a few late stragglers of raspberries and was pleasantly surprised to find a nearly tennis ball sized kohl-rabi from the July sowing, which I had with my tea.
