  • Raked over a bed that had potatoes harvested from it.. It is a semi shaded bed during the summer so the potato crop wasn't great.
As the tree that shades it, drops its leaves in the winter I am hoping to grow shallots.

Because the toon were playing and I wanted to watch the game, the shallots will need to be planted another day!

    • - emptied the full rain gauge (60mm this weekend)
      - dumped 7 bags of compostables at the lotty
      - made Autumn Crown & coconut soup, with butterbeans from lotty in it too
      - defoliated the chilli plants, as there's an explosion of greenfly on them
      - pulled up the green manures that are about to seed, left them on soil as mulch
      - picked another carrier bag of kale, it just keeps coming

      • I collected up a pile of stones into a container. These were all under a jap maple that I cut down last week - I wanted more veg growing space. Over the last few years I've just tossed any little stones under the tree. Now the tree is gone I just had a large pile if stones. Now they are gone! which is nice. Will have to take to dump at some point though I suppose.

        • Today I made a lid for my compost bin ( 2.6m x 1.2m ). Because I'm sick of the deer eating all the good stuff and just pulling everything else out.

            and I planted 20 onions.

            • Went to harvest some mooli for supper. Got talking to Helen a Chinese lady at the Allotments. Asked her if i could have a few of her autumn fruiting raspberry canes (Cos i'm a tight git and don't want to buy any) No problem says she.
We got to talking and she said she grew Pak Choi but struggled growing mooli. Popped back to the plot and gave her some of my mooli (which I'm particularily proud of!)

                    • Spent the morning weeding at my friend's and brought home some more calabrese - showing no sign of stopping producing yet. The damn slugs have eaten all of the late sown cabbage though.

Did a bit of clearing up at home then potted on some namenia seedlings.

Gave the worms some fresh paper in my new wormery. Not allowed to feed them veggies for another 2 weeks yet

Harvested some potatoes from the garage for tea and cooked yet more tomatoes for the freezer. Down to 12 punnets now and just about out of space!

                      • Planted out my new hardy kiwi 'Issai' - I am training it into an old plum tree that hasn't fruited in the 3 years since I took on the plot, so if the kiwi fruits at least the tree will be of some use! Potted on some little rocket plants and wallflower seedlings and popped them all into the greenhouse. Picked a nice salad of lambs lettuce, land cress, oriental mustard, mizuna, nasturtium leaves, baby pak choi leaves and garlic chives

                            • Pricked out 21 strawberry plantlets (Rubi). They are now in my little greenhouse, also pricked out and potted on some garlic chives. Picked more green beans for supper tonight. Bit chilly to stay outside too long today.

                              • Built a raised bed today for some elephant garlic. 6×6. Managed to fill it mostly with soil from the field but mixed in some fish, blood and bone. Ill put a couple of inches of compost on top before planting, hopefully in a week or so.
