I find loads to do at lottie in winter, mainly because I love being down there when it's a crisp sunny wintry day. Spent a happy afternoon yesterday weeding and making a chicken wire leaf bin in a corner behind the shed which I've newly cleared. Then I planted a cherry tree in front of it. Because the bin is triangular it has taken loads of leaves and they look beautiful, all gold and copper. Then there's the Stella cherry in front, with its plum coloured bark. Stunning! Extra satisfying as it was a wasted corner before - which really was a waste as it gets loads of sun. I've cleared a space for a Morello cherry as well, on another part of the plot... I really am running out of space now...
A propos of which, I wrote to the Parish Council again last night about the neglected plot next to mine, making a few suggestions (very politely, of course..!) I WISH they would either let it to someone or let me take it over. I'd plant raspberries galore, have a big potato patch, put some apple trees in and build a big mesh tunnel for brasssicas. It would all be up and running by next summer!! Oh well, a girl can dream.
Funny what you dream about as you get older, intit?
