  • Anyone else planted their sweetcorn?

This lovely sunshine is deceptive but thats not why I planted mine out. I did the same last year planted them out at 2-3" high about now under a mini polytunnel (big cloche with polytunnel plastic). They really thrived so I decided to do the same again. Think they are the perfect size - not too large a rootball so you dont disturb the roots much and the conditions under the cloche seem to suit them perfect (compared to beans etc which scorch).

    Anyone else an early bird?

Mine are only just sprouting due to the damping off of the first lot. Don't have a bed ready for them yet so not too worried

Depends whether we get any cold weather. Forecast looks good through the end of this month though.

I am more cautious, trying to keep the cold off everything is a royal pain. I'm only putting in half my first early spuds today, the others and Second's Main's will wait another 10 - 14 days.

The Sweetcorn I have sown so far, and the next couple of batches, will be for in the greenhouse, outdoor ones will come later.

                yes, mine are out.

hope it doesn't get too cold for them.

Thing is, I'm trying to do the 3 sisters thing, so i want the sweetcorn to have time to get tall enough for the beans to climb on.
(it's so annoying if the sweetcorn is too short for the beans to climb on!)

Mine are about 1" tall and my minicorn are just showing through. They are all in our polytunnel and will stay there. Unfortunately too cold and windy here for outdoor corn or I would have fields of them!!

Will soon see how I fare with a few cold nights coming up. They are in a polytunnel in effect though so sounds like I'll be alright as plenty of you have them the same (or greenhoused). The plastic is 600 guage rated to protect at -2 or -4 (cant quite remember).

Last year I just had cheap b&q plastic and Im sure there was some cold nights and they thrived so should be even better this year!

Blimey, that's early - have sown a bit earlier than normal this year but they'll be in root trainers for a bit yet. They've gone out to the greenhouse in the past few days but definitely not "out"

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Sorry to hijack and bump this thread but I'm in a little bit of a pickle over my sweetcorn. I got overexcited sowed it really early, now I have 6" plants in my conservatory... I want to put them out under fleece but I didn't realise that you're not supposed to disturb the roots. They are in tin cans and a trough, not a root trainer. Do you reckon they'll be ok to transplant? If not is it too late to sow some more?
Thanks very much in advance for your help, sorry for all the silly questions
