I read somewhere on here that Maskotska were a good variety of Tomatoes for hanging baskets, but my 8 are standing up like soldiers, 10" tall with no sign of flopping. Have I remembered wrong?

Mine didn't hang - but were a brilliant tomato for the kiddies! More a half vine/bush than a hanger IMHO

I have young plants. I read they were suitable for growing outdoors in containers but no mention of baskets. I hope they are a nice eater as I haven't tried this variety before.

Nieces stayed for a week last year and were fighting over them - each morning it was a rush to see who could pick the most red ones before the other got them. And they would check every hour to see if any had changed colour since the last time they looked.

The T&M catalogue describes Maskotka as "A bushy dwarf variety especially bred for growing in baskets and containers, where stems and fruit fall gently over the sides." They have a picture of one doing just that, too.

I grow them in baskets every year, they're brilliant for it. Tend to grow upwards until the they start fruiting then fall over and hang down the sides of the basket. I have 6 in my utilty room at the moment due to be moved out the greenhouse in a few days time before ending up in the polytunnel as last year. They're by far the nicest basket tom I've grown and keep going for ages, last year I had toms from very early June until November from them last year even though they got watered and fed rather erratically.

I think that's about what I do, at work at the moment so can't measure the baskets but they must be about thatish. In the polytunnel I use those fairly ugly plastic self watering ones which are great if I can't get there for a few days but at home I'd use something more attractive.

I'm growing them this year. There not a hanging basket tomato, they grow to around 2-3 foot and ya don't side shoot them. I'm hoping to save seeds for the tomato parcel next year.

I grow them in a hanging basket, they are about 1ft above the height of the basket and the rest tumbles down the side so to be that defines them as a hanging basket tomato although you could probably support them with canes and keep them vertical if you wanted. To be honest all hanging basket ones are bush types which you don't side shoot but some of them would be far too vigorous.
