  • Planning for autumn

I know I know it's only jusy Spring but is anyone planning for Autumn and Winter?

I'dbe interested to hear what you are sowing now as I'm pretty hopeless at forward thinking.

I've sowed leeks and some calabrese (both in pots in my polytunnel) and soon I'll sow some cabbages. I also have seeds for turnips, winter radish, rutabaga, and maincrop carrots that I'll sow a bit later.

I'll sow my maincrop carrots later on.

Sowing leeks and parsnips at the mo.

Will also do curly kale soon.

Mid summer I'll plant some pak choi, perpetual spinach and oriental greens, which normally last until we get snow.

I also stick a row of spring greens, and some onions in near the end of summer too.

Early maturing PSB already in 3" pots these will go in my potato bins after they are harvested

Standard PSB later and spring cabbage in Aug already have the seed.

Leeks coming along nicely. Winter cabbage, swedes, etc. will be going in later. I must admit I'm not really thinking about autumn yet. In fact I can barely think a week ahead at the moment as there's so much to be getting on with.

Limited so far - broccoli and sprouts sown (I like the idea of PSB in the potato bags - does that work well?? I've 34 or so potato bags so could use them for other winter stuff that doesn't need shelter)
Also I used the greenhouse last winter for overwintering veg - still eating kale, lettuce, pak choi, lambs lettuce and a few asian veg (too much there, will need to come out soon for the tomatoes to go in!)
I've also 2 minipolytunnels for raised beds, so I will be sowing and planting out later in the year to go under the protection - chard, asian veg etc
