Far from being an expert I thought I'd just show you how I go about growing exhibition potatoes for showing.
Last year I gave it a go growing this way and had amazing results, plus you can eat all the rejects too.
Simply using 17 litre polypots rather like plastic bags which are filled with fine compost.
2 oz of fertilizer added and a single seed potato id planted 2/3 down the bag.
Then these are placed in a shallow trench which also has some fertilizer added so that when the roots grow through the holes in the base they get more nutrients. The potatoes then grow in the bag in pristine condition and after 12-14 weeks depending on the variety cut the tops down, and leave for 1-2 weeks for the skins on the potatoes to harden before removing the potatoes and selecting some matching sets.
Then simply eat all the rejects.and as you get a good 3lbs from each bag there's plenty spare ones.
Video below.
Cheers,
