  • Mixed beans ?

    A daft question but.....
Can I grow different varieties of beans- ie Runner, Borlotto, and climbing french beans up the same wigwam? ......thinking cross pollination here.

    Many thanks folks

French beans don't normally cross, and french and runners are different anyway - so yes, you should be fine, HF.

Your wigwam will look lovelly with different beans growing.

Cross pollination only matters if you intend to save your own seed to grow next year. I often grow purple french beans with my runners and they do look pretty.

          Borlotti are French beans

Frenchies sometimes cross with each other, but not often (they are self-pollinating, and are pollinated before the flower opens); runners are more promiscuous (they are insect pollinated, by 'buzz' pollination) and will cross with other runners, but not with French beans
