  • Can I leave squash out in the cold g/h?

I've been ferrying my toms, aubs, and squash in every night recently, bat a week when they were left indoors as I was on holiday.

Lowest temp overnight for me is predicted at 9C at 6am. So long as no frost is Predicted can I leave the squash out in there?

do you think the tons would be ok tonight? Lower the greenhouse has been for a couple of weeks in 10.5C- I guess it should be around 10 in there tonight if it's going to be 10 overnight then drop to 9 in the morning?

I think they'll be fine. If you're worried cover them at night with fleece.
Mine have been in the cold g/h since march no problems, I think a nightime temp of 3-4 is ok for tomatoes

My squash has been in the GH for over a month. Lowest temps have been around 4c but they seem fine as are my toms and chillies.

My toms have been in the greenhouse border since Tuesday I cover them with fleece just to make sure, but I'm still taking the cucumbers, courgettes and chilli plants back to the kitchen each night. The lowest temps up to yets been 7c but this week they're giving lows of 2c.

Hmm yeah, i thought toms needed a min of 10C otherwise their growth is affected?

I'll leave them all out, need to start at some point! Cheers

My tomatoes have been in my greenhouse for a month, the courgettes went out today. But I'm at the tail end of my last frost dates and with no rain predicted, we're not forecast less than 10 for the next week

Ooh forgot about them, planted mine out week before last & they are coming on great guns, they are inside
alloy car wheels (warm air,no breeze & soil stays damp) which will be easy to cover should frost threaten

Its not the cold here that I am worried about its the 20mph easterly wind that been blowing for the last 5/6 days. Its knocking heck out of everything.

As said before, it all depends on your own micro-climate. Here near the bracing East Coast we can get a hard ground frost in mid May - we have the last 2 years. In the last week it has been down to 1.8 outside and as low as 3.8 in the greenhouse. Mine have been coming into a well insulated and double glazed Garden Room. I don't want to lose my good head start in one overnight blast!

Yes, I also understand that 10 degrees is the minimum for active growth on tomatoes.
