Radishes on top of spuds

Following Monty's instructions on Gardeners' World, after planting my Duke of York potatoes, I sowed radishes on the top after I'd earthed them up.

Well thanks Monty, that was a rubbish idea!

Firstly, the seed was easily washed off the sloped surface. Secondly, I now have potatoes poking through and the radishes are nowhere near ready:



So what am I supposed to do now? If I earth up over the spuds I lose the radishes. If I wait for the radishes then the spud will get nipped by frost (coming soon, I feel).

Any suggestions please?

I'm in the same boat. I think I'll pull out the radishes and earth up the potatoes. It will be easier to sow more radishes than potatoes.

I thought Monty sowed them on the ridges before needing to use the soil to earth them up?

I think Monty was havin a laff: there's no way it would work, the spud foliage grows so quick it would just drown the radishes

Daft idea. My neighbours did it too, now they're also stuffed.

Rocket grows fast, but it's got nothing on spud foliage!

I did it once-planted some lettuce between potato rows.Lettuce was growing very fast,trying to compete with potatoes-think it stopped at 2'-potatoes were nearly up to my waist.

But surely you did not sow all your radish seed at one go if it had worked you be eating nothing but radish just to use it up

I sow about 30 seeds per pot every 2/3 weeks which keeps us well supplied.

But I could have learnt for nothing if Monty knew what he was doing. He is supposed to be a professional.

Err, yeah, I forget how many was in the packet, but I sowed on top of two lots of spuds and a tub (recycling bin) full (a week or so apart, I think). Then I bought some of the Vienna F1 as recommended. I'd have eaten the lot, stood in the garden. I like radishes. A lot.
