What spacing are you using at 2 per pole? I plant singly about 8" apart and don't see how there could be space for adding another plant.....

I plant out my double-plants at about 9" spacing - i.e. I have canes at 9" space, with 2 plants growing up each cane.K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our garden

Thanks, my spacing was done 'by eye' so I measured yesterday pm and they actually average 9" apart so I'll give it a try and follow your examples and plant another next to each. I dug an 18" trench in December and filled with scrunched up newspaper and dead leaves which I sprinkled with 500gms of Sulphate of ammonia and heavily watered in.
I've grown runners in the same place for over ten years so thought they might need a bit of help.Last edited by richardbees; 09-05-2011, 10:18 AM.

Hi read all the threads regarding the seeds and having 2 plants to a cane - is this the same for plug plants? As i have got 3 dwarft runner beans plants from wilkos and 10 pea plants from ebay to plant on. With the runner beans i want to do a wigwam effect in a large container, and peas ina row with canes and nets. thanks a newbieGod made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done. ~Author Unknown

I grow my means in pots, then plant them out two per cane, briggsy so in effect it's the same yes Welcome to the vine, by the way.
Dwarf runner beans won't climb mind, so if you want a wigwam to grow up, you'll need a climbing variety.
Peas, I do two per "station" (planting hole) as well. Mainly incase one doesn't germinate, but it worked well for me last year.

Hi thanks Chris for that. Will the dwarfs require some form of support?

New thread here too: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ans_58048.html - suggests that they may not need supporting.. i'd say give it a go and see, if they start to get floppy, stick some twiggy sticks inbetween 'em!
