  • Aubergine growing tips please

I am growing aubergines for the first time this year. They are in a large plastic structure with the toms and peppers on the south side of the house. Boy does it get hot there!!!!

Can you experienced growers give me some tips for watering and feeding etc please.

    Thanks

aubergines like it hot, they don't do particularly well outside..hang on, you're in france...um...a hot bit? if you do, they like it outside
treat them like peppers and toms, you can de-sideshoot them, feed when fruiting.

I leave all the side shoots on and give them a couple of canes when they get big.
When they are fruiting they need quite a lot of water when it's hot..make a small earth wall in a circle about a foot wide around the stem and water into that..works a treat.
Feed with tomato food if you have poor soil..if it has been manured they shouldn't need feeding much. Make sure you cut the fruit off rather than try to snap them off..it's easy to damage the stems and some varieties are very spikey!

Mist the flowers daily with a hand spray or you may have difficulty with setting fruits......they're self-pollinating.
Also keep an eye out for red spider mites and attack them before they get a hold.

          Thanks folks.

When do I start to feed them? Like Toms when the fruit sets?

Glad you posted this roitelet, I'm growing them for the first time too, so it's good to have these tips. Mine are growing really slowly, is this normal?
