Might have to plug a leek

Ok. Corny title, but here goes.
I've had a complete failure in the leek department. Took my eye off the ball and they've been nobbled/wilted/died.
Nothing to plant out.
And I do like my leeks.
Theres nothing else for it, I'm going to have to buy in some plugs.

Thing is I can't recall seeing any in garden centres/ nurseries around Glasgow. Anyone local seen some?

I've looked at Dobbies mail order and they can supply by post but I've never really ordered live plants before.
Has anyone any experience of these? Are they strong enough to cope?

You can still sow some more now, you might get smaller leeks but should be ok.

I sowed another batch a couple of weeks ago - in between the two batches that I planted out in a corner of the lottie waiting until I have space.

If you started them off in a heated prop and put them outside as soon as you see growth - they should be ok - they will just be a little smaller than those sown months ago - and you will get more than buying seedlings as you can sow the whole packet....depending on how many leeks you want of course

I've deffo seen punnets of leeks in my local Dobbies and other GC's lately for £2.99!

PS I remember them because I thought "cripes, what a rip off!"

I've ordered live plants before - in fact this is the first year I've grown everything from seed! They are always fine and in good condition when they arrive - if a little late... at least with growing my own I have been able to get the plants to a bigger size before the last frosts! I havent ever ordered leeks though -more courgettes, chillis and tomatos )

I got my peas plugs off ebay -they came very quickly and have just planted them out. So trying looking on ebay if you have account.

I have had a similar problem, but I was at a carboot sale yesterday and I picked up two pots of leeks for £1, bargain. Carboots are a great place to pick up bargain veg plants.
