Fish boxes.

I know a good few people who use these polystyrene boxes for various jobs around the garden but what I did not know until today is that they are single use items. From the fish processing plant to the fishmonger to land fill.

I asked the fishmonger in my Makro store today what happened to them and when she explained I suggested that the company approach the local allotment societies with a view to giving them away. This would save the company money and mean a little less going to land fill. The lady thought it was a good idea and promised to take it up, we shall see. In the mean time I now have 7 assorted sizes.

If you use a fishmonger ask about these boxes. They are great for anything from storage to container growing.

Anything that stops that dreadful polystyrene stuff going into the earth is a good thing. Mair power tae yir elbow sir!
Of course the answer would be for them not to use them in the first place and use re-cycleable sustainable alternatives.
No doubt there will be some insane EU ruling that says wood etc can't be used.

No doubt they will end up in land fill at some stage but if we can make more use of them before that happens I think thats good.

I even use broken polystyrene packaging as crocks in my pots anything to try and delay the inevitable.

I've got a couple of poly boxes from the labs at work and I too use the bits of poly packaging as crocks. Makes a bit of a mess at compost time though, but I suppose it's worth it.

Please ask any labs/scientists you can find. if anyone is near me, I can give you lots of assorted sizes!!

I have to throw away a stupid amount of polystyrene boxes each week. We take lots of deliveries on ice/dry ice and very few companies in the UK ask us to post them back.

we also now cannot reuse them in the lab as they officially a fire hazard...
