Sweetcorn planting

I am desperate to get my tall potted sweetcorn seedlings (ha ha) into the allotment but these horrifically brutal winds are making me nervous. Anyone else planted yet and how are they surviving?

I put mine out at the beginning of last week, and they were doing fine... I'm off down to the plot in a few minutes (on me bike, how mad must I be!), so I'll report back once I've seen them today. I put bottle cloches over virtually all of them (ran out of bottles), so I suspect a few of those will be in the next parish! They are in the most sheltered spot available though, so I'm hoping they are surviving. Watch this space...

Maybe grab a couple of beach wind-breaks and secure them in place using a few bamboos?

Dunno, but I don't like it. I have a headache from the wind and it's blowing my poor garden to bits.

Same here. Everything getting bashed. Went and cut peonies, roses and stuff for house before they become petals on the ground.

I assumed I'd lost my packet of fifty sweetcorn seeds so bought and planted fifty more. Today I started planting things out from my pollytunnel and found the other fifty gorwing happily behind four huge tomato plants. I am going to have one hell of a lot of sweetcorn this year!

Update - All the sweetcorn were okay and amazingly all the bottles were still in situ! But two of the courgettes I planted out on Thursday, in a more exposed bed, were snapped off

I feel V guilty - I put most of my conservatory plants out yesterday! I did check them this morning but I bet they are shivering!

Is it too late to plant sweetcorn from seed? I haven't planted mine yet, totally forgot about them!

Using beach wind break to protect mine + I banked up the earth around bases, going to check later to see if bottles needed, only planted on Friday.

Reckon it would be just about ok buzzing, i resowed some of mine not long ago as the cat had the munchies in the night and managed to get into the propogator. Needless to say the corn was well and truly nibbled! Bad cat.
