hi all, ive just brought 10 airpots to put my tomatoes in, in the polytunnel. ive heard they are really good. has anyone else had any experence with these?. my friend has used them and he said they are good and produce high yields. what are your thought on these?.(i actually think they look like something scary out of ann summers lol

They were featured on the Beechgrove Garden programme (BBC Scotland) recently Adam. They look good so it will be interesting to see the results. They are a bit too pricey for me.

Yes I saw that, very interesting. Going by my roottrainers results (which I love) they should do very well.

I was wondering if they could be made at home in some way, but I haven't got any further yet. I've never seen one in real life, so am not really sure what they look like.

Crikey, they're not cheap are they? I could use some 45 litre ones and some smaller ones to try out for tomatoes, but I'm not paying that price. I wonder how long they last?

im not sure if they could be made at home. i never paid that much for mine, i brought the 6litre ones and only payed �2.59 each.have a look here:-

i would also recomend using the vitalink range of plant food and nutrients, ive used vitalink, canna, biobizz ranges and still find vitalink the best even though it is the cheapest out of the 3.

They are starting to sell these wrapped around young trees at Wyevale garden centre. I bought a Judas tree with one around it but what's great about them? Not sure why they are supposed to be good for your tomatoes - what am I missing here?

the roots dont compact like they do in a ordenery pot. they grow into the little pointy things and then the points trim the roots forcing more roots to grow and more healthy and bigger plants if that makes sense.

Do you get an increased yield then or something as I tend to do OK with my tomatoes in grow pots in top of growbags?

yes you do get incresed yields, my mate sed them last year and has a 10ft tomato blant with loads and loads of tomatoes. he also had the same type of tomato plant next to it in a grow bag and had a 4.5ft plant with not even half the amout of tomatoes on it.

WOW - mind you my greenhouse couldn't take 10ft high plants and neither could I. I'll stick with 5-6 footers

Wow indeed, I might have to take the plunge and try one myself. Like VVG though my greenhouse is pretty full up as it is and I'd lose some space also to these pots. I think it could be worth trying though. I shall be watching Beechgrove with interest.

Aren't these used more frequently by specialist plant growers. We have suppliers of specialist plant growing equipment near us and the guy at the counter thought tomatoes came in tins..........

I had never seen these either and was a bit baffled, I found the above page which has a video link explaining how they work. Certainly seems impressive.
