Watering whilst on holiday.... how do u do it?

I was looking at the thread here about soaker hoses and spotted the comment about turning the tap only half on to reduce the flow. So would having a tap (with a piece of hose between the tap and tube) on one of these boxes be an easier option than adjusting the height of the box?

As I've typed this, I am thinking my (girlie)thinking is rubbish.

Back again and did I enjoy my pint we spent 2 hours together and between us we put the world to rights.

On with the project the unrestricted flow rate through the 6mm pipe when the the outlet is 3" below the connection on the plastic bottle is 1.3 lts per minute, this is starting to look useful. You could run at least 6 drippers from 1 pipe with no trouble at all and of course if you were going on holiday you could connect more than one supply tank together to form a larger reservoir with ease. An alternative would be a 4/10 plastic tank from a plumbers merchant about £7-20p. which would give a storage capacity of 45 ltrs.

My next move will be to obtain some more `T` pieces and set it up to water and feed my 6 Sungold.

SS. The original plan was to set up a watering system for people going on holiday for nothing i.e. zero cost. This proved basically undoable so the next thing was to do it as cheaply as possible. I did originally use a tap you can see it pic 2 (blue thingy) but it was difficult to regulate the flow. Your link provided the answer (thanks) a pin hole you don't get cheaper than that LOL. If you scrounge the plastic tanks for the reservoir the whole thing can now be put together for very little cost.

How are the 6 Sungold doing?

I am trying to keep up with the technical side here, so bear with me.

If the flow increases when the tank is raised, does this mean you can increase the number of Ts from one 6mm pipe? Is there a height/number of Ts limit to this? I notice in the video clip that the tank is used for more than one pipe, what is the advantage/disadvantage to this? Does the water flow deacrease as the level in the tank goes down?

My wild thought about having a tap, referred to putting 'proper' one at the tank end to slow down the flow into the 6mm pipe. Your photo seems to have a little tap at the delivery end.

Has Smiledmb gone on holiday yet and will we get a postcard?

My greenhouse should be deliverd at the end of this week and have to wait to have it put up. So I can't put all of this theory into practice yet. So in the meantime, mines a G&T rather than beer.

The sungold go well thanks 3 are now up to their 5th truss and I have stopped them off.

If you raise the tank you increase the pressure in the pipe and therefore the flow of water, the problem being that said pinhole would then deliver 2.6ltrs of water a day which I feel would be to much for one plant.

The answer I feel would be to connect more than one pipe to the tank and then try the tank at different heights until you get the required flow rate through the drippers. I should have my extra `T`s early next week and will run a test bed and report the results.

G & T ice and slice is very refreshing I think you might well need one or two when you put up your GH.
