  • Do Radish seeds last long?

Do Radish seeds last long? Can they remain alright for years? I have bought too many, and I don't know what to do with them.

I think germination will drop over time but I have planted and had crops with three year old radish seed.

Oh, well I will try to use them, but was your crop good?

Plant them successionally - once a fortnight - you can keep cropping for months. I have seed that is about 3 years old and it still germinates. If you've really got too many to use, could you offer them to a school?

The crop was fine, maybe 20% less germination then the first year but I just put more in the compensate.

Well not too many, I'm not sure how long it will take me to use them, etc, but I would consider giving them away, if I could not use them. Do many schools grow vegatables? I can't remember doing that at school, except watching a bean plant grow in a glass jar, sadly.

Oh, 20% less over 3 years isn't too bad. I should be fine then. The seeds usually have a high rate of germination.

I've used seeds over a couple of years now with good germination. They spring up and are ready to eat so quickly just keep bunging a load in every few weeks and you'll get through plenty i'm sure

Radish are brassicas and the seeds from all of those keep for years. Have quite successfully grown them from old packets about 10 years old with very little drop off in germination so long as they've been stored in the cool and dry.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

radish seeds are very tough, though germination rate may drop... I have one packet of french breakfast radish over 8 years old, has been wet couple of time and seeds were looking odd.. but guess what, 50% of them are still germinating
