I have planted some spring onion seeds I had left from last year , about a month ago and had nothing come up yet got some new seeds planted a fortnight ago and have seedlings showing , what is the life expectancy of seeds ?
I've used three year old spring onion seeds with no problems so perhaps they weren't stored correctly. Or you could have had some dodgy compost. That happened with me and I lost about a dozen trays of seed with almost zero germination.
i sowed them directly into my raised veg beds the new seeds are doing great the others are playing hide and seek , perhaps i will just go buy some new seed
I found many of my spring onions (new seed this year) germinated, got to about 8cm high, then yellowed and shrivelled up
Maybe a third to a half survived. They were mostly planted along with carrots, which are growing fine.
Have also sowed some into little mushroom trays in the hope of getting enough to survive and grow to an edible size!
