  • In the shade of the old apple tree tra la

In the absence of the Search thread, I have a small apple tree that dapple shades a couple of my veg beds. Will kale tolerate it there and are there any other shade tolerant veggies I can use there please?

Kale as a winter veg should be fine as of course in the winter the tree won't have any leaves on it!

You're lucky it's only a small apple tree Flo - the one in my back garden is HUGE!!! - Can't do anything about it cos it's a rented property, but the apples are lovely cookers.

I grow calabrese in two plots 1 against a south facing wall and 1 against a north facing wall and there is little or no difference in the crop.
