Two cucumber questions

Hello all,

I've never grown cucumbers before, so need a wee bit of help please.

Firstly, do they need a big pot? What size / depth would you suggest for one picolino?

This will be grown outside as I've no greenhouse space. I've bought a bit of trellis to attach to the fence for it to climb up. How high do they go? I ask so I know whether to put the trellis vertically or horizontally (it's a 6'x2' bit).

MBE, I use a 10 ltr pot (the largest of the Morrinsons buckets) though some folks might well like to use bigger.

I am not familiar with that particular vareity but if its like any cumber I have grown I would have the trellis vertical it would save some space. I am expecting my mini cumbers to grow about 6ft high and then run another 6ft under the appex of my GH.

I grew 2 marketmore cucs to an old square recycling bin last year with trellis behind. I'd also go upright with the trellis although mine did wander around horizontally a bit they were definitely taller than 2 ft.

If I did run the trellis horizontally, I would have it at the 2'-4' level, IYSWIM? I've got a couple of gherkins that might want to join in as well, so horizontal would probably suit better. I just wanted to check that they didn't grow like beans.

I've not grown that variety but it is described as a mini-cucumber with only 1.5m height - doesn't sound as if it will grow as large as a standard cucumber.
