  • Aubergine Seeds

I am hoping to grow aubergines this year. All of my other seeds have germinated indoors in a propogator and then been transferred to the greenhouse. The aubergines have yet to germinate and are in danger of being left behind!

    Is this common?

    Are they notoriously slow?

    Any advice welcome.

    Hi there

Mine were slow to get going but most of them are now up after a fortnight in a heated propagator.

Someone else was bemoaning their slowness in another thread the other day, so I think it's relatively normal, though I think they like it quite warm to germinate, so maybe they're just sulking now it's turned cold again - I certainly am!

Aubergines can be slow to germinate like peppers/chillis and can take 2 -3 weeks.
In a heated propagator mine took about 10 days..

My advice would be to hang on in there with fingers crossed!
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy

My aubergines have been fairly OK but peppers / chillies have been their usual random selves. Some varieties were up in days but I'm still waiting for any sign of life from my Purple Tiger chillies and one type of bell pepper (can't remember the type but they're seeds from last year that I couldn't get to sprout then either!). Goodness only knows what I'd do if they all did come through as I've nowhere to put them all!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
