Which do you like best? 'Snips or carrots?
I'd be tempted to have a go, as the seed doesn't have a very long shelf life. Sow lots, expect small 'snips.Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made

You could chit them to get "slightly" ahead, but it'd probably be days if anything.. I put a row in a bed in about 2/3 weeks ago just to see how they'll grow. If you have the space, do it and sow some faster maturing crops alongside so the space isn't totally tasted. The worst than can happen is that you'll get small parsnips.
You'll be able to roast them whole on xmas day mind, "petite parsnip" - just say it's the new craze

I got one to germinate from a whole allotment row! AND they were pre-chitted. The weather must take some of the blame. You could certainly get another lot in. I think I'm going for later carrot sowings though. Largely because I can't stand parsnips!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I've put ours in at the new lottie this last week, son no2 would have be very disappointed if we hadn't at least had a go. It's so dry though, I don't know if they will come. I've let some from last year go to seed. We were very successful from self sown seed before, but if these don't grow this year we'll have to buy some for the next.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.

I've always had fantastic 'snips :-)
How do you guys grow yours ? I've always made a hole witha bar and filled with mix of multi purpose, sand, lime and a few other things. do you guys do this or just plant them direct into the ground.

I've tried the 'sow in the ground and cover with a plank of wood' method for the first time this year. Was only a week ago, so the wood is still in place.
I will report back.Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

Im growing my parsnips (& carrots) in a 30cm raised bed filled with Wickes multi purpose compost. Its a very heavy soil on the site and my first effort last year produced quite a few stumps. Very good germination rate this year and i did a little succession planting. The first couple of rows have incredibale foliage already. Remains to be seen if they produce well.Comment
