Help please!

Good evening all, i wonder if someone could advise me please, i've just done quite a diluted drench on my pots with Provado vine weevil killer but have accidently got some in the tom and cucumber pots, i've flushed the tom and cuc with plenty of water, well 4 gallons actually - will i still be able to eat them when they start to produce fruits or do i have to throw them and start again? thanks from an idiot!

Sorry AJG, not at all sure what Provida is. Just did a google search, and came up with a police in-car speed measuring system. A little more information should help. I presume it's a chemical, who is it made by, and what do the instructions on the bottle/pack say?

Maybe, but Provado is a systemic insecticide - I can't see why AJG would be using that on pots (or maybe potatoes) ???

sorry! i did say i was an idiot! - Provado - vine weevil killer, found 2 of the buggers in a couple of pots that's what i'm using it for, accidently got some in edible plants and your not supposed to get in near them, i just didn't move the pots far enough away, i can't be the only one this has happened too can i??

Thanks Rustylady, i had a look at the link but that's the bug spray that can be used on edibles, the stuff i used was the stuff for ornimentals that you use as a drench so still need advice

How quickly did you wash it through? If it was immediately I doubt it will have had time to be absorbed by the plants. However the official line would have to be against eating anything treated with chemicals not recommended for edible crops. I suppose really you will need to make your own judgement, anything we say will only be our opinion. Can you find any testing data on the web? Like you can find for medicines etc. That might help you come to a decision.

Get in touch with the manufacturer, they will advise.

If you read through the Provado information, the active ingredient is the same.

The manufacturer will say "dont eat them" just to cover their own behinds. I dont think it will be deadly poison, I would try a nibble then wait and see, but thats me...

I think as BarleySugar said if you washed through straight away it's not going to have time to be absorbed, especially as you said it was a dilute solution anyway.
