Window Sill Garden

Hello

Im new on here and after some advice.

I live in a flat with no garden but have always loved growing veg. Im looking for ideas of things i can grow indoors on a window sill?

Im currently growing chillie peppers (Joes Longs and cayenne) and also Bell Peppers.

Is there any else (other then Herbs) i could grow?

How about a couple of Red Robin tomato plants. They grow to about a foot tall and final potting is into a 4" pot.

You could do some baby leaves for salads. Ummmmmhow about some small radish or beetroots....

Do you have no outdoor space at all? It would vastly increase your options (pests like greenfly are a huge problem if you grow indoors - no predators)

Thanks for the suggestions!! Im not sure where to start now! Im thinking tomatoes and peas!!

I've just noticed that my chillie plants have small white spots on the underside of some of the older bigger leaves.....any ideas what these could be and how i get rid of them? Also i've noticed some small black flies hanging around, could they be connected?

I think you could try some dwarf baby sweet peppers (orange baby).
Also basil & oregano.
Turkish Rocket also likes some heat.

One trick is to grow lettuces singly in pots and when it's very hot put the pots into an old washing up bowl with an inch or two of water in the bottom. A plastic window box with water in the bottom would do the same job of keeping them damp in the heat of summer.
A thin cane roller blind would also be useful to keep the midday sun off the plants.

When I lived in an apartment with no outside space, my favourite book was The Window Box Allotment by Penelope Bennett. A great read, tons of tips and ideas for growing in very limited space. I really recommend picking up a copy from Amazon.

My successful things were little hanging pots of 'Hundeds and Thousands' tomatoes, lemongrass, peppers, baby Parmex carrots, and salad leaves. Also had a couple of small lemon trees (worth it for the lovely blossom) which didn't exactly thrive, but did ok.
