what to follow potatoes with in bags?

Thanks Jamesy - it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was the lack of water - they get a thorough soak once a week / fortnight but that's it!

I shall be harvesting my first potatoes from bags (hopefully) in a week or so, and they will be followed by some pumpkin plants (variety, Small Sugar) , currently getting ready in a cold frame nearby. One pumpkin plant per bag. I will add a little extra feed, and some well rotted manure to the compost in the bags before planting.
