    i have just harvested my over wintering onions. i know they dont store past xmas but what is the optimum way to store them

    hindsight is a wonderful thing but foresight is a whole lot better

    They need to be dry, laying them out in the sun when it shines. I then string them up in the shed and they seem to keep quite well. Use any that have tried to flower and have a thick neck first as these don't store as well.

      As Wendy says, best to dry them then hang up in a dry frost proof place. Then eat them as fast as you can

        I dry them, cut off the leaves then put the bulbs into the legs of old tights (washed!) with a knot tied between each bulb to prevent any rot etc spreading. They hang on the utility room door. I ate the last few from last year this week.
