Hobbit harvest....

Have just harvested some very hobbit sized Paris Market carrots, Boltardy beetroot and some bolted red onions (From jamie olivers crate).

With the now bare naked looking containers that housed the carrots and beetroot, am all right to plant in some radishes, turnips and or lettuces?

Onions taste very onion-y, beetroot had a lot of pink juice. Have learned that the deeper you buried the carrots, the bigger they get...hobbiy sized or not....

I'd plant lot's of radish in the container...nothing worse than a naked container.

Mix some BFB or Growmore into the compost to sweeten it up and plant away.

Yip, radishes have it. Pops was stating a preference for them. Have these white icicile jobbies and them freebie ones from the mag. White icicles might be fun, might end up in ma's stuffed chappatis. That and we apparently have a thing about the leaves being nice.

Dirt is a bit damp what with yesterday's deluge.

Growmore & Blood Fish and Bone (organic equivalent) are NPK neutral fertilizers, they will put basic nutrients back into your used compost.

It's July, and one of experiments has come to fruition. I am amazed by the shallots. They smell incredible. I realise that it all looks a little green in the picture. but trust me. The foliage had collapsed and turned into straw.

There is one whacking great big onion in the middle, that looks like it is from Sainsburys! So much so, I tapped the french doors, and waved it at my sister. The onions, are on the whole, small. Most likely, as I didn't space them out properly in the containers, and because Ma waters them religiously having wagged her finger at me and said 'Your grandad used to water them twice a day....' I will be taking note, and using that to deal with the over wintering onions.

Speaking of Ma, she's been having a chuckle at the funny shaped courgettes that have been coming up. One looked like a rounders bat!

Onion patch is bare, and looking pleadingly at me. So going to add some of the bone blood stuff, and rummage through the seedbox. I think I got Florence fennel (another freebie) and some turnips, that I haven't touched yet.

Kevin the Aubergine, has ceased to exist. Above ground he was a miserable whatsit. On digging up his bunker, he had roots to last a while. So not to self, grow aubergine under some cover.

And my peas are coming up at somepoint. Have boo-booed on those this year. Stupidly neglected them, and now have horrible guilt. In my defence, pops tied them and squashed them when he was trying to fend off the pigeons.
