Need more space!

The broad beans should have been out of the ground by now, but they're too slow, so there's nowhere for the rest of the brassicas to go, and they desperately need to go into the ground (good excuse?) .... so I can use a bit more lawn.

I can't dig it because it'll make it too loose, so I thought I would sprinkle it with some blood fish and bone, cover it with a layer of cardboard then a layer of cheap compost (probably grow bags) then dig holes through the cardboard for planting.

Will it work?

Yay, finally found a positive in Himself buying a 3D telly. The box. I need more space too, so some more lawn bites the dust. It's worked for my pumpkins endymion and I planted straight through the cardboard with no compost on top, so give it a go!

Don't know how many plants you got but my cauli's are in Morrison buckets.

My PSB is the same but this is just holding them until the potato bins become available.

Thanks, that's the sort of confirmation I need. Now all I need to do is find some cardboard and then raid the split bags bin at the garden centre!

I haven't counted, but it's far more than we'll need because more germinated than expected and I haven't had the heart to throw them away. There's a good mix of varieties too, which the pigeons have been eyeing up!

We've also got quite a lot of lawn, which I reckon would look much nicer growing veg - so I just need the excuse to convert a little bit more into 'veg patch'. It'll save having to mow it too, which surely has to be another selling point.

Lawns are a waste of time unless you have children anyways Thats what I would blurt out lol. Then steal it little by little each year.

That's what I've been doing, but up to now the excuse was new flower borders ... which I also used for veg and herbs. This year I've managed to get a new veg-only patch, which is already twice as big as the original plan. They haven't noticed though, mainly because the weather's been too bad for us to use the garden for sitting or eating.

Now, where can I put the rest of those squash/cucumber/courgette plants? I've squeezed one in beneath the currants, a couple are meant to climb up canes behind the lettuce, but there simply isn't any more bare soil for the other plants!
