Fennel in pots

Got some free fennel seeds. Can I grow in pots? If so, what size would you recommend?

I grew fennel in pots last year .pots were 2foot long and half a foot deep .found that if you space them about 6pm us apart you get good wives heads .got about 8 in a pot . Hope this helps.
