Welsh onions

I grow Welsh onions and they are fab. Ok, so they dont originate in Wales
but they are still great.
Very useful perennial bunching onion that hales originally from Japan.
Tough as old boots and very tolerant of a range of soil and climate conditions.

I eat the whole onion if I have plenty to spare that is. Still alive!

The books say to eat the leaves

Real seeds do an onion that you use the leaves too.. can't remember the name of it - looks similar though.

I had quite a few clumps of these on my plot when I got it. I must admit I wasn't too impressed with the mild flavour and slimy tuffness!

I gave the clumps away to another plot holder who grew them for one year then chucked them out also.............he wasn't impressed either!

Horses for courses though...........if you like them thats a good enough reason to grow them!

I'm getting into permaculture and trialling some other "perennial" onions.
I didnt realised there were so many out.
