I've only had two plants germinate and i don't want to buy plants so i don't think i'm going to bother planting them out now. The one's that did germinate aren't looking too great either- maybe a dodgy pack of seeds?

Mine are about 25 cm - and so is most of the corn in the fields around here.

I should think you'll all grow your corn as high as an elephant's eye

I've got corn envy now! Thought mine were doing ok at twelve inches! Still there's a dose of high pressure on it's way so hopefully they'll get a crack on. They hate the cold winds we've had down here.

the first year i grew it, i took all the stems coming from the very bottom of the plant off, not sideshoots, just the extra ones that grew at the bottom, and had a good harvest, at least two cobs from every plant. Last year I let them grow and had less than one from each plant. This year, I'm removing them again, and I'll see what happens.
By the way, my corn is about a foot high now.

Mine are growing in their own little mini polytunnel thats' about 5 foot high and 4'x4' wide. The sweetcorn is nearly at the top of the plastic so I suspect I shall have to take the plastic off at some point within the next couple of weeks or so. I suppose that means I should strat leaving the door open so thay can ventilate and start hardening up. The tassels at the top are out but no silks have appeared as yet below. Fingers crossed!

Ah, that would be why, then. I was so gobsmacked by the "8 - 10 feet" bit, my eyes didn't make it any further across the page. Even so, ten feet high corn is pretty good, isn't it?
