Well alternate days of sun then rain has caused mine to nearly double in size over the course of the week. And thanks to the advice I received here last year, my celeriac is also coming on a storm.

Most of the varieties we grow here would never reach 8 feet anyways. Swift and those kind top out at about 6 ft I believe.

Dave what was your Celeriac advice? Mine is bushy but cant see any bulb growth yet. Does it come later?

The bulb does come later but I was told to keep removing the 'skirt' of lower leaves, the stuff that tends to look a little tired and floppy, obviously retaining the strong vigorous growth on top. This forces the energy into the bulb etc. Plenty of compost to hold moisture as its a bog plant and finally loads of water!

I've got some Sugarbuns in and growing away at the allotment (well, I hope they are, for various reasons, including laziness, I haven't been down there for about 2 weeks ) but i have also just (this week) had a batch of Conqueror germinate that I'll probably plant next weekend depending on how much growth they put on by then - so I'd definitely go for it with a later seed (Conqueror is, but not quite this late...). Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just pray for a lovely sunny Sept/Oct

My tallest of my 9 corn plants is about 90cm (that's 3 feet to all of you working in old money ) I think the rest will grow taller when I get the broad beans that are shading them slightly out. (Very small veg bed, but lots packed in it.)

Strangely, I have 2 24" pots each with 5 Swift in, and one pot is doing ok, all about 12" tall, yet in the other one, 2 have died, snapped at the stem, and the other 3 are barely 8" each, both in the same medium, both with the same amount of water

                      Me too.

My lottie corn (the babycorn) is growing nicely, although not as well as some on here I might add- sadly the regular corn at home is just... well, it might have put on a cm or two since I started this thread, but only that if any. I've pretty much written it off. I go on hols in a couple weeks- unless it does anything dramatic in the meantime I'l hoik it all out when I get back and grow some lettuce or something.

No big corn for us this year!
