Sungold Tom performance ?

I have some Sungold Tomatoes grown from seed. This is the second time I have tried them and once again by comparison with all my other varieties they are spindly 'strung out' plants, somewhat tall and weedy looking with poor leaf size. The growth rate is also noticeably slower than the other varieties. Yes, they are bearing excellent flavoured fruits but I would expect the plants to look far more robust, particularly as the are in the greenhouse. Is this to be expected from Sungold or am I doing something wrong.

How strange. My Sungold are faster than all the rest, and the plants are big, strong healthy specimens

What are you comparing them with? Sungold are just as vigorous as other cherry tomatoes, but some large tomatoes have bigger foliage.

My Sungold is quite tall and thin but I let it get quite potbound as I really couldn't get up the enthusiasm for potting on another 12 buckets

Mine are looking good. Comparable with Gardeners Delight which is the other tomato I grow in the greenhouse, and the fruits are absolutely beautiful

my sungold is an absolute monster..its huge! i have been so suprised how fast it grew, and it looks like it will be bearig plenty of fruit too, really pleased as its my first ever attempt at gyo! soo excited! x

Sungold can be a bit spindley on the bottom of the main stem especially if you have let them get leggy in the early part of their growth.

To get round this I feed with miracle grow (high nitrogen) until the second truss as set flowers then change to tomorite (high potash) to grow the fruits.

Mine are bushy little monsters about 18" high with armpits needing taken off everywhere. I have flowers on one (of four) but nowhere near the fruiting stage yet! (very jealous!).

Having said that, although I bought T&M Sungold seeds, I never actually planted them. Before I got round to it, I found "Sungold" seedlings in Tesco's for half price (for £1.75, woohoo!!) so I suppose they could theoretically be anything...

Maybe it is just the seed stock I have bought but re Rusty Lady the Sungold are poor by comparison with the Gardeners Delight monsters grown and fed under identical conditions. Of the 5 varieties I am growing this year they are definitely the poor relation. I will stick a few of the 'armpit cuttings' outside and see if they perform any better.

They won't be too long, mine are being eaten already (only one a week though )

Checked mine this morning - and I have pea size fruits - yay! Last year my sungolds failed. My money makers didn't fruit, and the golden sunrise didn't grow well either. The only tomato I got proper fruit off was a green sausage.

This year, all of the above bar green sausage are belting away. I'm probably going to have to remove my greenhouse staging to give them some more room!

My Sungolds are probably *just* behind the money makers in terms of vigour. I've countless armpits on the go which seem to be catching the parent plants up extremely fast.

My Sungolds are rubbish. Still small plants, nowhwere near as far advanced as anything else. No flowers, they seem to have just stopped growing

My Sungold seeds put down 28/02 or there abouts, seem to be doing quite well. There again they always seem to do the job. Been eating the odd one for about 10 days but expect full production in about a week weather permitting.

Wow Colin your toms look great .mine are sting fruit but put them out Side a few weeks ago as no more space
In greenhouse .and let's face it the weather has been awfull since then..but due to warm up tomorrow and stay like that for at least a fortnight so here's hopeing for the tomato gods to smile on me.
