look after cucumbers

i've got three left from five, lost to slugs/caterpillars as opposed to suicidal tendencies though. It's my first year growing them too and as of yet i'm not particularly impressed with them. I wonder if it's been a factor that it just hasn't been hot since that spell in June

James it has been a difficult year for lots of things especially cumbers. I now have 2 1/2 left out of six. The latest sucumbed today no idea why it was doing well yesterday. The others are doing well now and producing lots of mini cumbers.

I gave one plant away yesterday (and of course I picked the healthiest) to a completely novice grower, I'd better have a chat with her about not overwatering it. I really hope she gets a crop.
