what are people netting.

i have the following under netting.

onions and leeks - leek moth
cabbage - butterflies birds
broccoli - butterflies birds
radish and swede - flea beatle
peas and mange tout - birds

Netted most of mine this year (or am in progress towards), but mostly against cats and birds.

The vital ones appear to have been the following:

Peas - sparrows
Strawberries - blackbird
Raspberries - sparrows
Blackberries - caught the sparrows eyeing them, so will be netting.

Absolutely nothing under netting here !! Dog in garden keeps birds away - though he has trashed some of my show onions and shallots in moments of hot pursuit!!

I WISH I'd netted my peas as the sparrows have trashed them

Carrots, parsnips, onions, shallots, leeks and almost all brassicas (psb, cauli, cabbage, kohl rabi etc) are under fine netting because of the various flies and moths, and also pigeons.

Salads are covered because we thought it might keep out the greenfly and, so far, it has - it also means we don't have to worry about any wildlife picking up slug pellets.

We've, today, used a cheap, wider mesh, netting for our currants because both the pigeons and blackbirds were starting to eat them even though they aren't yet ready. We reckon it'll only need to be on for about a week.

We haven't got any more fine net, so Rainbow chard and kale is not covered, neither is the celeriac.

Beans aren't covered either, the celeriac is tucked beneath them so we're hoping the fly won't find them.

Squash, courgettes and cucumbers aren't covered.

Everything else is out in the open - including the raspberries of which I have so many I'm happy to share.

Any recommendations, eBay or otherwise for netting/meshes etc?

I have some of the white mesh tunnels, and they are superb but they are a little small for full size kale and cabbage.

I've gone netting free this year - kinda. The strawbs are under chicken wire and the carrots under voile but I've ditched the cruddy nettting cages since they collapsed in the snow. I put a small bit of chicken wire over the brassicas until they're bigger. Also been using twigs which seems to be working.

Strawberries have pea netting
Carrots have fleece
I'll throw some scaffold net over the fruit bushes too.

I bought my netting from scaffolding direct, pea netting from poundland and fleece from Wilcos.
