Over the years I have grown a huge variety of cauliflowers, and have tried growing them in the tunnel for an earlier crop but always struggled to keep the curds white on indoor raised plants. This year I tried a variety called Cheesy F1 and it is superb - I harvested the first one today - nice size and beautiful white curds - and this is due in no small part to the excellent cover provided by the outer and inner leaves - in fact, so much so that I only realised the cauli was ready for harvesting when I checked for any pests, not actually expecting to see anything but a very small baby cauliflower curd. So if you fancy growing caulies inside for a quicker harvest, I can happily recommend Cheesy F1 - but remember to peel cback the leaves to check on their progress.

hi, that sounds like a good one.
This year I've been growing 'mayflower' from dt brown.
They're brilliant! Not quite enough leaf coverage so I'm snapping off the outer leaves to shade the cauli til I can pick them.
Out of 8 I only have one small brown one, which I think is where I dont give them enough room, light, water etc etc.
Really impressed me.
One thing I dont like is getting the little bugs out before eating, they seem to hide everywhere, I know its picky and its a price to pay for not spraying or using netting, fleeces etc etc.<*}}}>< Jonathan ><{{{*>

first year I grew brussels I covered them with gravy so that the children wouldn't notice all the grey aphids! have to say that the brassicas have been excellent so far this year and noticed today that my cauliflowers are suddenly ready. Found Clapton reliable and easy to grow.Gardening forever, housework whenever!

Photos posted tonight on my blog Dave The Gardener. Both before (in situ in the tunnel) and after (on the kitchen table) with a 50p piece for scale. Have a look if you are interested.Rat

Nice one rat, well two actually, had to look hard for the fifty pence though.
Me being me I wonder what they would do in containers.
