Right - The weather's turned warm, so I've sown a few RB's straight into a raised bed with some multipurpose compost and a cupfull of Fish, blood & bone. I'll let you know how it turns out
Thanks for taking the time to respond everybody.

They have every chance ~ I do it all the time.

However: they are likely to be a dryish, mealy tasting pea, rather than a nice sweet garden pea

I'm having right trouble with the snails this year. There seems to be loads of them.

I plant French beans right through until August time normally. The grow quickly this time of year. Just keep sticking them in and see what happens. I usually get a late crop end of August early September to freeze for winter.

Yep, they're less bothered about hot dry weather than slugs are. Also, there's now lots of baby snails about, and they love to hide up in the bean foliage, near the top of the canes just where you can't reach them

Got lots of snails eating my dwarf french beans too, is it best to leave half eaten leaves on the plant for them to finish snacking on or to take off and make the bean stronger? Its my first year with bush dwarf beans(ordered by mistake!) X
