cabbage white pests

i am having problem with butterflies laying eggs on the leaves of my swedes, can anyone suggest a solution, whether chemical or not

netting is the only solution. The butterflies are attracted by the smell, you'll be forever squishing them and you won't get them all

I know cabbage whites can be a pest, but is it only me who hasn't seen any this year? We were just commenting on it at the allotments today............strange to see brassicas that don't look like lace curtains!

They seem to have come out in the last week round here but very few compared to normal.

I have loads ..about ten times more than last year but I suppose I notice them a lot more this year as it's myfirst year with brassicas..

I'm glad all the cabbage whites have went on there holly holidyays to Eastbourne!!!

I've seen my first cabbage white today but only one where normally by this time we have dozens. Long may it continue, although I'm sure the birds would appreciate a few caterpillars about now

^ Birds don't eat cabbage white caterpillars, they taste nasty (like sprouts)

I've only seen one or two this year as well. I wonder if the long hot spring did for them?

Saw my first two yesterday. I've been inspecting the leaves every other day and have yet to see any eggs. Fingers crossed it continues, because although I've got the netting, I haven't put it up yet!

Saw my first one or 2 yesterday here in Sheffield, and by the evening I was squishing eggs in the Kitchen garden, luckily the allotments are netted.

I have a few visiting now. Think its been too wet last few weeks? Much better than last year where at about this time all my brassicas had been decimated by caterpillars

As suggested very fine net (enviromesh really) is only solution. But thats far too annoying if you dont plant massive long beds of just brassica.

The cabbage & cauli on the plot are netted...............but I forgot about the seedlings of winter cabbage in the garden I've just been out there squashing single white eggs off, rather than the usual yellow ones.
the small cabbage white's eggs I think.
They are netted as well now, but I'll have to keep an eye on them to make sure I squashed the all eugh!
