S'okay, this was a spare one anyway. It just annoys me ~ I do all the school gardening for free, in my own time. Last week someone knocked the new hanging baskets off the wall
It does make you wonder what goes on inside their heads.
I'm also growing my pumpkin and butternut squash in the compost heap, both growing great guns, have come out and started to crawl round the back, the other day i told one of my daughter's they were just like triffid's She said" What's a Triffid" Ooops.
Ok then just to sign off this not exactly scientific (no comparator) experiment,I culled the weakest plant (at the top of the climbing frame stage 1.8 metres) leaving two, these continued along the ladder onto & across the roof to a length of 5.450 metres,as fruit was late setting I only allowed 4 to grow which had a cumulative weight of 14.5 kilo's.
Anyone wishing to replicate this should note that I initially allowed the plants to grow down to almost ground level (anticipating a degree of compost/manure shrinkage) prior to starting them upwards on the climbing frame (securing them selves by tendrils),as it turned out this was a good thing as there is only about a quarter fill left in the dalek today, the tendrils either unwound or snapped as the roots went down with the compost level,so it was as well I did not physically tie in place.
Thanks for that info, I think I know now how I will be growing mine next year. You have given me a cunning plan, now all I have to do is decide which varieties...
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
Head-hunted member of the Nutter's Club - can I get my cranium back please ?
Aye, my thoughts precisely ! The hallmark of the standard criminal: poor impulse control. Explains everything really, no philosophising needed.
Yep. Ive got kids and dogs. Impulse control is one of the most valuable skills you can give them. Pumpkins in the dalek....well my plants are fantastic....if you like golf ball sizes pumpkins!
