Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum and new to growing anything really...
Last autumn my girlfriend gave me a roughly 30cm tall scotch bonnet plant. I managed to keep it going through a savage aphid attack (with use of insecticide I am slightly ashamed to say) and now it is getting pretty enormous.
A month or two ago it started producing loads and loads of flowers so I pollinated them all with a feather and now they have pretty much all turned into chillis! I would estimate at 30-40 chillis.
My problem is that they are almost all very small. 2 or 3 of them are about 2cm across but still much wider than long, but almost all the others seem to have stopped at about 1cm across. They almost all became chilis rather than flowers 3 or 4 weeks ago and within the last fortnight most of them have turned red but there has been no change in size for a couple of weeks.
Am I being impatient? Should I thin them out? The plant is still getting bigger fairly rapidly with new stems and leaves seemingly every couple of days, is this growth limiting the chili development? Should I water more or less (I currently water roughly every other day)? I am using tomato food in the water about once a week - is this OK?
It is on a stool inside a south facing window which gets all the sun available. I have re-potted it twice and it is now in an 8" terracotta pot.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
Ross.
