  • Strawberries

These strawberries in the picture have been planted since May and have produced some strawberries but there has been no flowers and no strawberries produced in the past month.

is there anything I can do to make the plants produce more strawberries.

Not if its an early fruiting variety I don't think! You need a couple of plants of early, mid and late fruiting varieties to prolong the season.

They look to be very young plants too. You can't expect much fruit from a plant that size, they should do better next year. Also, strawberries really don't need to be in a greenhouse at this time of year unless you live somewhere really cold. By the way, welcome to the Vine. Could you add your location to your profile please?

My strawbs have been rubbish this year - had a couple of bowlfulls, if that. But then yours are in a greenhouse so can't be a weather issue.
Not to put a downer on your efforts but it may be that the price of that growbag is more than the shop value of the amount of strawberries you are going to grow in it. It's not all about money, though, I suppose...

I've planted a new bed this year Mary and have had next to no fruit. There will be a better harvest next year. Welcome to the Vine.

Yes, you can cut those runners off and put the strawbs in a permanent bed for them to crop next year. You won't get any this year as they are quite young.

OOOh just as well you added the final sentence or I'd have been telling you to wash your mouth out with soap and water.

Rusty's point about greenhouse growing is spot on and of course strawberries need the winter cold to be able to produce crops in the first place(wondering to myself if this is vernalisation), so outside is the place for them. Some can then be grown on inside for an early crop .

Even though I've grown strawbs for the last few years, I've learnt a lot from your comments above. Does anyone know the answer to this one (sorry to hijack your thread). My plants have been on the lottie for 3 years now, last year was the best ever - this year not so good. As I'm planning on giving up my lottie, is it worth me digging them up and putting them in a planter, or should I start again from scratch? Ta muchly.

They're only a year old though, they've got at least another 3 years left in them. Get them outside though

If they're 3 years old I wouldn't bother. Let them run and then pot up the runners though
