  • So will my aubs and peppers not grow this year?

I remember last year having already picked some aubs and sweet peppers from my outdor plants by this stage. This year we seem to be falling well short.

The plants looked stunted for about 8 weeks until we had some real warm weather a couple of weeks ago. They now look a decent size but only a couple of ruit on about 30 plants. The peppers all seem to have plenty of buds but no real flowers and the aubs have a few flowers that just seem to fall off at the first oppurtunity.

Is it too late to hope for a harvest late August/September?

Mind you I have got to also say that my outdoor tomato plants seem to be all flowers and no fruit this year too. The plant looks wonderfully healthy but no flaming fruit.

Can we blame the weather or is it just not my year.

Aubergines and peppers do much better in a greenhouse or polytunnel. They really appreciate the extra protection. However there is still time providing we get some good warm weather, so I would advise patience.

My aubergines and peppers are the same TT and they are in the stayput greenhouse, so I'm still hoping. My tomatoes have made somewhat of a recovery since I tried to drown them and are producing flowers, but only one little tomato as yet. As RL says, patience and a bit of a prayer here too!

TT personally I think you can put it down to this years very poor summer so far, so like the ladies have said it a waiting game.

My plants have made considerable sized peppers but they are in a greenhouse. Can you maybe erect a polythene tunnel/cloche over them to create some heat?!

I was thinking of a way of trying to "heat them up" as I have put my temporary walk in gh away now till next year.

I did have a very good crop last year from these plants but as I said I think they had a good 6-8 week stunting period this year. Lets hope they have a good run now till the first frost!

Don't lose heart, I am sure they can be sped along! I am feeding mine weekly too and maybe that is the difference. I still think some kind of cloching may be worth trying. Hopefully that Indian Summer is on it's way:-)

The good news is they are forecasting better weather.
