Blue Danube potatoes - blackleg? :(

I think 3 of my Blue Danubes have got/had blackleg - foliage goes yellow and dies off, mushy stem where it goes into the ground. Not blight as there's no black blotches on the leaves or foliage, plus they're supposedly blight resistant.

Anybody else had this problem with Blue Danube? Apparently it's usually a seed-borne disease, but can occasionally be found in the soil. I haven't grown potatoes in this particular bed before, so I can't imagine it being in the soil.

Never grown it but if it is blackleg, there will probably be spoiled spuds. Ttakes the pleasure away a bit but there is always next year

I think that blackleg causes grey blotches on the leaves.

With blackleg, the stems rot to a black slimy mess. It's very evident when a plant is affected. The leaves are more likely to be affected by blight

Yeah, the stems were rotting at ground level. The foliage was dying off because the stems were mushy. It's just the foliage dying is what you notice first, because the stem damage is out of sight. There was no potatoes at all under the affected stems.

Thankfully, not all of the plants were affected, so I've still got some spuds from them. I dug up the other plants this morning and got about a carrier bag full

I wouldn't keep any of them for seed. Get new stock rather if you intend growing them again.
