    When to plant them out?

I tried my first sweet potato yesterday (wow, they're yummy) and am going to give them a whirl in the garden.

I don't have any slips yet but have a spare potato at the ready to be soaked, but is it too late in the year to be starting? I figure maybe not as they need warm soil so should be ready for planting out when the weather really heats up, but I would rather eat my lovely organic sweet potato rather than potentially waste it?

Don't know when the optimum time is to plant them out but I only received my slips from T&M last Friday. Planted them up straight away and looks like 7 or 8 of the 10 are doing fine. At the moment they're in deep (but not that big) pots in the greenhouse but I'm hoping to put them outside in the ground soon. What do you use for black plastic, just bin bags or something more heavy duty? Also, do I just plant them straight in the soil or in ridges like normal spuds? As you can tell, not really sure and the instructions weren't too hot! Suppose it's just a drawback of more adventurous veg....

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
