I am thinking of showing a few things at our local allotment show on Saturday. Sweetcorn and Borlotti beans. I am unsure how to present the sweetcorn. Should I remove the outer covering and threads to reveal its inner glory or should it be in tact?

All advice gratefully received.

I showed sweetcorn in a class at our local show about 2 years ago. I read somewhere it should be left intact with outer covering and silks left on so I did that and it won. I've also seen some shown peeled but they didn't win but I don't know if that was because they were peeled or if the judge saw something else he didn't like about them.

Found a link for you. Seagrave Vegetable Society - Tips on showing "Sweetcorn-fresh, cylindrical cobs with fresh green husks, intact silks and up to 1” of stalk. Grains well set up to the tip in straight rows and milky when pierced. Pull down husks and tuck neatly under the cob."

the rhs recommended is to remove a window approx one quarter the diameter of the outer covering from the top to bottom, this will hopefully show a fully developed cob, you can remove some of the tassles and strands or silks just to tidy things up, best of luck, kevin.
