Don't give up chuck. I'm having a war with the snails at the moment. I have had 2 lots of plants munched that I grew from seed, but I have taken delivery of some more and I'm growing them on till they're a bit stronger in the hope that they'll be more snail-resistant. I'm not going to let the snails and slugs win, I love home grown bras

I have huge caterpillar problems on my brassicas - that's huge problems with caterpillars, not problems with huge caterpillars...
I've stopped trying to grow any for spring/summer harvest and now concentrate on winter greens as I can focus my netting and protection in the late summer before all the b*****s die off. All my kale, cabbage and broccoli seedlings are under nets waiting to be planted out at the weekend. I still have to do a regular pick over them to remove those little green camouflaged ones. I see it as the circle of life - if you eat my brassicas, I will feed you to my chickens.come visit a garden

my first attempt at brassica's last year were a disaster as used netting but the netting holes were too big so everything still got in
bought some enviromesh back in Feb this year and TBH i have bought it as an investment, yes it was expensive, i think about £70 for the size i needed but it should last 10 years (if i look after it) so thats £7 per year, i'll spend that on caulis from Tescos in a month
i had perfect cabbage and cauli's this year
don't give up, the battle against the beasties has only just begun you may lose a battle but with persistance, you'll win the warLast edited by The Large One; 31-08-2011, 09:41 AM.
