a month or so yet. If they don't ripen by the beginning of october, if they're inside, pull up the whole plant, hang upside down, or pick off individual toms and leave with a banana somehwere. Peppers will ripen in a similar way, but they're ok to use green. Chillies can be picked off and left on a sunny windowsill, they'll ripen too

Have you got them in a sunny (looks at the weather) and sheltered spot? Although mine are greenhouse and those tent things for £7-10. Mine are ripened and ripening. I have been stripping lower leaves off and moving upwards.Last edited by VirginVegGrower; 29-08-2011, 10:40 AM.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Same here, Leeds Lad - I brought a few tomatoes indoors and they ripened very slowly. The rest are in a polytunnel. Peppers all green - I know they can be used like that, but I really want them to be red.
I agree with Virgin Veg Grower that the early cold and the intermittent cold/rain/sunshine/heat of this summer is likely a big factor. My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

Sorry to put it like this but if your in the Midlands and your toms arn't ripening at this time, in this year your deffo doing something wrong or not doing something you should be doing.
I have been harvesting toms from my GH and outdoor hanging baskets for 2 months so we can discount the weather.
Are you feeding enough? No matter what the weather the fruit will not ripen until it as grown to size.
