        I expect this idea could work for several tender plants: toms, aubrigine, cucumbers, melons...... I'll try it for toms this year.

          Better soil at the bottom so that gives them an unfair advantage! Watch this space.....

            I would be tempted to put them at the bottom of a slope so water would run towards the roots. I suppose it may depend where the sun rises.......you could always tie them down......like you do your men.......

                    This is a really good idea - I think I shall try a mixture of the cloche, frame and not worry too much about the staking of toms for the plot, especially as growing them straight into the ground means that I may not have to water every day, as you do in containers in a greenhouse.
                    Rushes off to fashion a Heath Robinson contraption .....
